Life-Skills Training

Complete Self Sufficiency

Life skills training is an integral part of addiction recovery programs. It equips newly recovered addicts with the kind of skills that they need to cope with the challenges of daily life. At Above All Recovery Center, we offer life skills training as part of our comprehensive addiction recovery program. We work with our clients closely and help them pick up the skills required to rebuild their career and life.

Life skills training is considered the key to unlocking the building blocks that will help you achieve the skills and knowledge for complete self-sufficiency. The preparation for self-sufficiency and importance of life skills training is crucial.Whether you need help building a resume, learning new interview techniques, or assistance in finding gainful employment, we will use all the tools at our disposal to ensure that you are ready to bridge the gap between the recovery world and the real world. It is vital that you go over your newly learned coping mechanisms to ensure that when you have a craving, you are armed with the tools and knowledge to overcome those obsessions and maintain your sobriety.

The Need for Life Skills Training

Addiction destroys you physically, mentally, and emotionally. It magnifies your defects and affects your ability to think, react, and behave normally. The longer you stay in the haze of addiction, the higher are the chances that you could forget the skills you previously acquired in your life.

When you complete a recovery program, you might feel that you are ready to get on with your life. Without having the right set of skills, however, you might find it impossible to face the challenges of everyday life, especially while staying sober. Difficulties and failures could push you towards a relapse. This is why it’s so vital for you to learn proper life skills before you set out on a new path.

What Does Life Skills Training Entail?

A life skills training program prepares you to lead a healthy lifestyle, cope with the ups and downs of life without feeling stressed out, and maintain your sobriety.

Developing a Routine

As an addict, you tend to spend most of your days in a fog – getting high, recovering to come up with the money for the next dose of drugs, and getting high again. So, it is pivotal to develop a healthy daily routine during your recovery process.

At Above All Recovery Center, we can help you develop and implement a routine which includes getting up and going to bed at the same time every day, shaving and showering every day, doing laundry on a regular basis, getting regular exercise, and eating a healthy diet.

Employment

As a newly recovered addict, you need to be gainfully employed in order to remain self-sufficient. At Above All Recovery Center, you will also learn how to prepare your resume, attend interviews, and interact with people in a professional manner. We will also help you learn the required skills and obtain the necessary certifications to get a job. We make sure that all our clients work for at least 30 days and receive their salary to help them find their feet in the working world again.

Money Management

This is the biggest challenge for most addicts as they are used to spending whatever money they have to fuel their addictive habits. So, money management is one of the core aspects of a life skills program. You will learn how to spend responsibly, prioritize your monthly expenses, and live within your means (you are not a politician! – certainly from New York or California!). You will also learn how to save and invest a portion of your income for financial stability.

Healthy Eating Habit

Addiction takes a heavy toll on your physical health. So, it is crucial for you to develop healthy eating habits. We can help you learn how to eat a balanced diet, how to resist the urge to binge on unhealthy snacks, and how to cook simple, healthy meals at home.

Developing Healthy Hobbies

Boredom is a dangerous companion to a recovering addict. So, we at Above All Recovery Center encourage our clients to spend their free time reading, cooking, exercising, learning to play musical instruments, gardening, and other such productive activities. These activities can keep you engaged whenever you feel bored and lower the risk of a relapse. We also offer a vocational trade school, The Recovery Workshop, where patients engage in woodworking, mechanical, electrical, and art classes.

Learning Life Skills at Above All Recovery Center

At our center, you have access to three facilities, highly skilled counselors, and facilitators who can take care of all your needs and make you feel right at home. You can stay in our graduate sober home with a number of other recovering addicts, all of whom share the same goal – to learn the skills required for a fresh start in life. We are also here for patients once they have moved on into their own home. Our extensive alumni program is available to patients who remain sober. When you step out of our center, you will have the confidence and skills needed to lead a stable and sober life.
